Physical Inspections
Experienced Eyes
On the Vessel —Not Just the Documents.
Our vessel physical inspection service deploys experienced Mariners with active vetting experience — targeted findings, narrative reports, and full PSC and Oil Major readiness.
Pre-SIRE · Rightship · Condition Surveys · ISM / ISPS · Pre-Purchase · Navigation & Cargo
THE PROBLEM
A document review can’t see what’s actually happening onboard.
Remote audits close many gaps — but some things require physical presence to assess accurately.
— Crew behaviour, drill proficiency, and bridge team dynamics are invisible on paper — inspectors assess them in person.
— Physical condition of mooring decks, engine spaces, and accommodation can mask serious deficiencies that photographs miss.
— Pre-purchase decisions based on documentation alone carry undisclosed risk — independent eyes catch what sellers don’t disclose.
— PSC inspectors board without notice. A vessel that hasn’t been physically assessed recently is unprepared for real scrutiny.
“We don’t just tick boxes. We board with the same mindset as the inspector — and tell you what they’ll find before they do.”
What We Do
Five inspection types. One continuous system.
Each engagement is scoped specifically to your vessel and purpose — not a generic checklist.
Pre-SIRE / Rightship Physical Inspections
A rigorous onboard walkaround aligned to the SIRE 2.0 and Rightship RISQ 3.2 frameworks. We assess high-impact areas — machinery spaces, mooring decks, accommodation — and conduct crew interview simulations covering behavioural competency, Code of Conduct, and Psychological Safety. Drills are witnessed and critiqued against proficiency standards, not just completion. A detailed debrief with the Master and Chief Engineer follows.
Condition Surveys
Vessel condition assessed against SIRE 2.0, Rightship, and PSC benchmarks. We document physical standards across all key spaces and provide a structured report identifying deficiencies, priorities, and rectification timelines for the management team.
Pre-Purchase Inspections
Independent physical assessment before vessel acquisition. We provide an unbiased view of actual condition against stated specifications, identifying undisclosed deficiencies, deferred maintenance, and compliance gaps that affect purchase value and future operating costs.
ISM / ISPS / MLC Audits
Internal audits verifying SMS implementation effectiveness, security compliance under ISPS, and MLC 2006 working and living conditions. Structured reports deliver observations, opportunities for improvement, and prioritised corrective action timelines.
Navigation & Cargo Audits
Onboard review of navigational discipline, ECDIS usage, passage planning execution, BRM practices, and cargo operation compliance. Findings are benchmarked against SIRE 2.0 and Rightship expectations to identify training priorities and procedural gaps.
How We Work
Before, during, and after — a complete engagement.
Every vessel physical inspection follows a structured three-phase process to maximise the value of the attendance.
01
Pre-Attendance Briefing
We review available documentation, PSC history, and any known deficiencies before boarding. A targeted vessel physical inspection scope is agreed with the shore team so attendance time is focused where it matters most.
03
Closing Meeting
A detailed debrief with the Master and Chief Engineer covering critical findings, immediate rectification priorities, and items that must be addressed before the live inspection or next port call.
02
Onboard Physical Inspection
Physical walkaround, crew interviews, drill witnessing, and document spot-checks conducted with the same rigour as a live SIRE or Rightship inspection. No advance warning to crew on specific focus areas.
04
Written Report & CAP Guidance
A comprehensive narrative report covering all the vessel physical inspection findings, crew performance observations, and objective evidence. We provide root cause analysis guidance for each deficiency to support your Corrective Action Plan.
